Enzo Fernández gave his performance at this year’s World Cup a “7,” noting that he felt physically exhausted during the tournament, and also mentioned the red card he received in the final against Spain.

“How would I rate my performance at the World Cup? A ‘7.’ In the first game I felt good, in the second more or less the same, but by the third I wasn’t feeling well anymore. I wasn’t in good form from a soccer standpoint. Physically, I was fine, since I’d played in so many Premier League games, every three days. However, as the tournament went on, I started to feel physically exhausted as well.

I’m grateful to have experienced those moments. They’ll go down in the history of our national team. Obviously, there’s some disappointment that we weren’t able to win the title again, but I appreciate all the effort this team put in to lead Argentina to yet another World Cup final.

Do I blame myself for the red card? Of course I do. No soccer player wants to be sent off, let alone in a World Cup final. It hurt me a lot. Over time, I’ve learned to accept it as part of soccer. But, yes, that red card remains a thorn in my side,” said Enzo Fernández.
