This was the conclusion reached by AKEL and the other parties.

“Suffice it to say that, based on the commitments we have made on numerous occasions to the European Union, on December 31, 2029, the generators in Dekelia and three generators in Vasilikos must be decommissioned. 720 MW will be taken offline.” Stefanos Stefanou, Secretary-General of AKEL

“The firm I am a partner in was indeed legal counsel for ETYFA and the Republic of Cyprus as you mentioned in the London arbitration, but we have resigned from that position because it was no longer compatible with my role as a member of parliament.” George Pamborides, DISY Member of Parliament

The session was held behind closed doors to protect the interests of the Republic of Cyprus in relation to the ongoing arbitration with the Chinese consortium, even though aspects currently under consideration in that process had been discussed in previous open committee sessions.

Odysseas Michaelides revealed his intention to send a letter to the Audit Committee so that, at its next meeting, it may consider whether or not the Auditor GeneralAuditor General is required to be accountable to the committee.

At the same time, he spoke of preparing a bill on the independence of the Audit Office, while once again casting doubt on the Audit Office, alleging that it is keeping two reports on the back burner and has another case under investigation regarding issues that have come to light.

“It will be legislation that introduces safeguards for the independence of the Auditor General—safeguards that have never before been enshrined in law—and at the same time ensures the functioning of the Management Teamas yet another institutional counterweight,” Odysseas Michaelides, Head of ALMA
