"Opposition fervor" lies behind the concerns and criticisms regarding Anagnostopoulos’s appointment to the team of criminal investigators who will examine the findings of the Independent Anti-Corruption Authority regarding Makas’s bookDrousiotis’s book *Mafia State*, as President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides observes.
Speaking at the Annual General Assembly of PASYXE and asked to respond to claims that Anagnostopoulos’s appointment would taint the process, the President of the Republic stated that prior to the appointment, the opinion of the independent Anti-Corruption Authority had been sought, and it had found no issues.
At the same time, he called on political parties, politicians, and citizens to allow the Commission to carry out its work without interference and to issue its findings, which he expressed his readiness to discuss publicly.
President Christodoulides also noted that the government is interested in the substance and verification of the findings in the Authority’s report, rather than in voicing concerns.
