A presidential atmosphere began to take hold within the Democratic Alarm 18 months before the election. The first candidate from Pindarou to declare his candidacy is MP George Pamboridis.
“Averof Neophytou, Anita Dimitriou, and I. I believe I have what it takes to run for the office.”
This is creating new factions within the party, whose members will be called upon to make their decision by early 2027. Giorgos Pamporidis has never made a secret of his interest, as his name was also widely discussed in connection with the 2023 presidential race.
“Anyone who is interested has the right to express their interest. It is legitimate to do so, provided it is always done with respect. It is not a bad thing for there to be interest.”
Anita Dimitriou – President of DISY
George Pamporidis also refers to an internal pre-election campaign against him during the parliamentary elections, with the DISY president referring the matter to the party’s relevant bodies, stating that suchissues must be resolved there.
And what about Averof?
Sources close to him say he is assembling a campaign team, and Averof Neophytou—who, by no means coincidentally, recently launched his own WhatsApp channel. The party president, however, at the Democratic Alarm’s anniversary celebration last week, sent clear messages about the need to set aside personal ambitions, since the party cannot afford to take a newpath of introversion.
Anita Dimitriou continues to appoint, alongside her, the party’s parliamentary candidates who were not elected. Following Elena Kousiou, it was Polys Kourousidis’s turn; he is taking on the internal party portfolio of Internal Affairs as well as the role of special advisor on housing policy. Both had been mentioned as possible candidates for inclusion in the upcoming cabinet reshuffle.
