DISY emphasizes the need for a comprehensive energy plan in a statement, noting, among other things, that inaction is costing the country and its citizens.
“Energy storage is a strategic necessity and cannot be postponed any longer. Infrastructure, the power grid, and strategic projects: Cyprus cannot afford any further delays,” Pindarou states.
She adds that recent power outages serve as a reminder that Cyprus still lacks a comprehensive and coherent energy plan.
“We reiterate that energy storage must be a priority in any comprehensive energy plan. Its development—both at the central level and in residential installations, and especially in large renewable energy projects—is a strategic necessity for system stability, the utilization of green energy, and the reduction of electricity costs. Equally important pillars of a comprehensive energy plan are the implementation of the necessary energy infrastructure and strategic projects, as well as the upgrading and strengthening of the power grid.”
Unfortunately, a lack of decisiveness has caused valuable time to be lost, he notes, while calling on the government to immediately move forward with the implementation of a comprehensive energy plan, with clear priorities, specific timelines, and measurable results.
“Citizens and the economy need a modern, reliable, and resilient energy system.”
