Last-minute bookings are “saving the day” for the tourism industry

The situation is constantly improving
ALPHANEWSLIVE

The situation has improved in terms of both tourist arrivals and hotel reservations in August.

Speaking on the Alpha Summer program, Marios Polyviou, President of PASYXE Larnaca, stated that the situation has improved since May and continues to improve, while noting that “last-minute bookings seem to be saving the day and mitigating this decline (in bookings).”

He added that last-minute bookings “cannot turn the situation around—that is, allow us to talk about an increase—but they will certainly reduce the rate of decline.”

The decline compared to the same period last year is approximately 10%, and with last-minute bookings, it is possible that the decline could fall below this percentage.

As for tourism revenue, according to the latest data from the Department of Statistics, published at the end of June, there has been a decline of about 16%.

“So, as you can see, a 16% drop in revenue can certainly undermine a business’s profitability, but that doesn’t mean it’s an absolute given for everyone. We’ll wait until the end of the year and see how things go in the coming months.”
