Tassos Isaac and Solomos Solomou, through their sacrifice, became a beacon in the struggle to end the occupation, achieve reunification, and restore the rights of all Cypriots, according to a post by the Office of the President of the Republic of Cyprus on social media marking the 30th anniversary of the murders of the two men.
The post notes that today is a “dark anniversary,” as 30 years have passed since August 1996, “which plunged Cyprus and the Greek diaspora everywhere into mourning with the cowardly and brutal murders of Tassos Isaac and Solomos Solomos by the occupying Attila.”

“Our memory recalls the dramatic images that have become synonymous with courage and a banner for every person who claims the inalienable right to live freely. Images that serve as irrefutable evidence of these heinous crimes,” the statement reads.
Through their martyrdom, it is noted, “Isaac and Solomou revealed the cruel and relentless face of Attila and made known to all of humanity the lawlessness he has been perpetrating in our homeland since 1974,”.
It is noted that Tassos and Solomos were “two simple, pure-hearted patriots, who were raised on Hellenic-Christian ideals and fought for what should be self-evident: to live freely in their homeland,” he states that, through their sacrifice, “they became a beacon in our struggle to end the occupation, reunify the homeland, and restore the fundamental freedoms and rights of all Cypriots.”
