The trial of 26-year-old Eirini Mourtzoukou, who faces a series of charges, is scheduled to begin today, Friday, at the Mixed Jury Court of Patras.
Specifically, Irini Mourtzoukou is charged with multiple counts of premeditated murder committed while in a calm state of mind and attempted murder. She has been held since yesterday, Thursday (November 5), at the Patras Transit Detention Center, where she was transferred from the Eleona Thiva Prison, where she had been detained.
It should be noted that the prosecutor’s indictment states that the defendant “took pleasure, without remorse, in killing people around her,” while it is noted that she does not appear to form emotional bonds with those around her.
The Indictment Against Mourtzoukou
The first incident is said to have taken place at Christmas 2020, when Irini Mourtzoukou allegedly attempted to murder her ex-partner.
This was followed, on February 4, 2021, by the murder of her friend Katerina’s six-month-old infant, Katerina, and on June 19, 2022, the murder of Mourtzoukou’s first child, who was just 19 days old, according to the indictment.
The last of the three infant homicides attributed to her occurred on October 17, 2023, when her second daughter died at the age of two months.
Strict Security
Measures For its part, the police are expected to implement heightened security measures both inside and outside the Patras Courthouse, in order to ensure the smooth conduct of the hearing and prevent any tensions.
It should be noted that during Eirini Mourtzoukou’s previous appearances in the Patras courts, there were boos from gathered citizens, both upon her arrival and departure, resulting in the need for a strong police presence.
