The players who followed Gonzalez at Olympiacos

Planning is "underway"
ALPHANEWSLIVE

On the field, Olympiacos has turned its attention to the match against Atromitos, which is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. on Saturday (August 22), for the league opener.

On the transfer front, there are still many loose ends for the “Red-and-Whites.” Armando González should be considered a member of the team, as an agreement has been reached with Chivas Guadalajara, with the deal set at €8,500,000 plus €2,000,000 in bonuses and a 20% sell-on clause.

The 23-year-old’s contract will be for four years. Meanwhile, according to reports, the Mexican is expected to arrive in Greece on Friday.

There are quite a few pending issues that Olympiacos needs to resolve to complete the puzzle for the new season. Especially since developments like the Mafeo situation have arisen—he didn’t even get a chance to learn his teammates’ names and is essentially a thing of the past.

So, Olympiacos is looking for a right back again. They’re trying to convince Mele, who became known to the general public through Atalanta (2021–23) and has been with Wolfsburg since 2023, but apparently doesn’t want to follow the club into Germany’s second division. The issue is getting him on board to come to Greece, and for now, that’s not happening. Also high on the list is Pinheiro of Famalicão, the club from which Gustavo Sa was recently acquired.

For the midfield, the club is looking for one more player following the signing of Remo Froiler, with the cases of Caseres and Puerta remaining in the spotlight. The first case is more likely to happen (though there were no developments on Wednesday), while the second is very difficult, with Santander still insisting it will only release him if the €20,000,000 buyout clause is met. Meanwhile, in Turkey, the Amrabat issue is back in the spotlight.

A major effort is underway to sign Sevilla’s Vargas, with an offer of €12,000,000 made to the Andalusians, according to reports from Spain, but the La Liga club is asking for €15,000,000. Servette’s Kantile is also in the picture, while the situation could change with the possible departure of Zelson.
