José Luis Medilibar is a free agent following his departure from Olympiacos, and his name is starting to come up quite frequently in international reports.
Both in Spain and Turkey, the Basque coach appears to be drawing attention, and there is interest in him.
According to the Spanish outlet “Cope,” Medilibar is one of two candidates being considered by Espanyol to replace Manolo González, who stepped down as the team’s head coach following a dismal start to the La Liga season and elimination from the Copa del Rey by fourth-division side Sestao. In addition to “Medi,” Julien Lopetegui, who is also a free agent, is in the running for the Espanyol head coaching position.

However, the 65-year-old coach appears to be under consideration by Fenerbahçe as well. Ismail Kartal has left the Turkish club, and several colleagues from the neighboring country emphasize that Mendilibar is the management’s top choice.
All this comes as the Basque coach appears to have decided to take a break until next December, with plans to take over a team again starting in the new year. Of course, this doesn’t mean things can’t change, especially if he finds an attractive project.
