Track and field legend Usain Bolt appears to be preparing to compete for a team in the Manchester local league, as his name appears on the team’s online roster.
The eight-time Olympic gold medalist, who still holds the world records in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, appears on the Withenshaw FC player list on the English Football Association’s official Full-Time platform.
The team competes in the Cheshire Veterans League and boasts a roster full of former high-level professional soccer players. Their coach is former Manchester City and Republic of Ireland midfielder Stephen Ireland, and several former Premier League players have featured in their starting lineup.
Among them are Danny Drinkwater, Antonio Valencia, Joleon Lescott, Emile Heskey, Mark Albrighton, Nedum Onuoha, and Papis Cissé. In fact, last season, the players on the Withenshaw roster had recorded a combined total of more than 1,800 appearances in England’s top division.
Bolt’s Love and Connection to Soccer
Now 40 years old, Bolt is a well-known soccer fan. After retiring from track and field following the 2017 World Championships, he attempted to pursue a career in professional soccer, playing briefly for the Australian team Central Coast Mariners.
A die-hard Manchester United fan, the Jamaican has also participated several times in the Soccer Aid charity matches over the past decade. Withenshaw, however, has not yet officially announced Bolt’s signing, and while the club was asked to comment on the matter by the *Telegraph*, it did not issue a statement to the well-known British website.
