Andreas Antoniadis, known by the alias “Keravnos,” has passed away. Although he was initially a member of EOKA, he later sided with the British.
The website “Historical Memories of EOKA 1955–1959” states that “one of the British’s most trusted collaborators, and condemned in the conscience of the Greek Cypriot community during the period 1955–59, Andreas Antoniadis, known by the alias ‘Keravnos,’ passed away in England, where he had been living.”
Antoniadis indelibly linked his name to the dark side of the liberation struggle, becoming one of the most notorious collaborators with the colonial powers, as the post adds.
“Initially a member of EOKA, he later switched sides, providing critical intelligence to British security forces and the intelligence division of Governor Sir John Harding. His actions led to the arrest of fighters, the discovery of hideouts, and the seizure of the Organization’s weapons. Because of his systematic collaboration with the British, he became a target of EOKA assassination squads, surviving several attempts on his life.”
Meanwhile, after the struggle ended and the Zurich-London Agreements were signed, “Antoniadis—like other collaborators with the colonialists—was smuggled out of Cyprus due to fears of retaliation. He settled in Britain, where he remained until the end of his life.”
