The 20th Mediterranean Games continued in Taranto, with Maria Avgousti’s performance in the All-Around final standing out among today’s events. Andreas Makris had a very strong showing on the second day of the trap shooting competition, but it wasn’t enough to make up for the ground lost on the first day and advance to the final. The table tennis team put in a solid performance but failed to secure any medals, while all archers continue competing in the individual events.

Here is a breakdown of the Cypriot participants:
In Rhythmic Gymnastics, Maria Avgousti competed in the All-Around final, finishing in 9th place—the same position she achieved in the qualifying round. Her overall performance was very good, as she scored 97.000. In fact, she could have moved up 1–2 places and surpassed 100,000 if she hadn’t received a low score on one apparatus (Ball: 21.000), since she scored much higher on the other three (Hoop: 25.200, Clubs: 26.050, Ribbon 24,750)
Archery kicked off with all six athletes—three men and three women—competing in the morning qualification rounds. Christos el Helali secured the qualification he needed to advance to the “Round of 32,” so all athletes will now compete in the knockout rounds on Thursday morning.
In the men’s team event, Cyprus started in eighth place after the classification match but was subsequently defeated by Greece in theand was eliminated before the quarterfinals, finishing in 9th place out of ten teams.
Six teams competed in the women’s team event, and Cyprus finished 6th in both the initial classification round and the final standings after losing to Turkey in the knockout match.
Finally, in the mixed team event, Cyprus finished 8th in the classification round and will face Algeria on Thursday for a spot in the quarterfinals.
In table tennis, the men’s team (with Christos Theofanous and Siarpel Ilias competing) knew in advance that the draw against Italy left them little room for maneuver. They lost 3-0 to the host team and were eliminated from the competition, with their best performance coming in the doubles, where they won the only set in any of the three matches.
In Trap Shooting, Andreas Makris put up a strong fight on the second day, and he nearly made it into the final, but the damage was done on the first day (in the third round, he scored 21/25). He scored 49/50 and, with a total of 117/125, fell two targets short of the final, which was “locked in” at 119. With this result, he tied for 10th place in the event with eight other athletes.
Yiannis Ailiotis, with 44 out of 50 targets on the second day, finished with a score of 108 out of 125, placing him in 23rd place.
In the 10m Air Rifle event, Marilena Konstantinou made yet another appearance with the national teams, recording a score of 612.0 in the qualifying round, which placed her 20th out of a total of 26 shooters.
