The Labor Advisory Council will meet on Friday morning, chaired by Minister of Labor and Social Security Marinos Mousiouttas, to continue discussions on the bill and the government’s proposal for pension reform.
The Council’s session will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Ministry of Labor with the participation of labor unions and employer organizations.
As Mr. Mousiouttas stated in an interview with CNA on Thursday, the presentation and analysis of the bill will continue on August 28, first at a meeting of the Technical Committee and then at the Labor Advisory Council, with particular emphasis on the “zero pillar” and the low-pensioner allowance.
The Minister stated that discussions on the three pillars of the reform will proceed in parallel; however, the completion of the discussion on the Provident Funds is not a prerequisite for the bill’s submission to Parliament.
He noted that the goal is for the bill to be submitted to Parliament in September and added that it would be ideal if a final agreement on the second pillar had also been reached by then.
He also said that the relevant Technical Committee will begin regular meetings on September 1 regarding the second pillar, which concerns the Provident Funds.
Discussions will continue throughout September, with the goal, if possible, of reaching a final agreement by mid-October, Mr. Mousiouttas noted.
