At this stage, the French authorities have not located the 53-year-old Lithuanian real estate agent, who was expected to be extradited to the Republic of Cyprus following a French court’s decision to execute the European arrest warrant issued against her, as part of an investigation into the misappropriation of Greek Cypriot properties in the occupied territories, as stated to CNA by Police Spokesperson Byron Vyronos, confirming a report published yesterday in the newspaper “Politis.”

Speaking to CNA on Wednesday, Mr. Vyronos stated that the French authorities recently informed the Cypriot Police that they were unable to locate the woman, who had been released on probation in France.

“The French authorities have informed us that they are unable to locate her at this stage,” noted Mr. Byron, adding that, since the French court had issued a decision for her extradition to the Republic of Cyprus, she would need to be located in order for the extradition process to proceed.

“When they searched for her to proceed with her arrest, they couldn’t find her,” he said.

“We were ready to proceed with the process of taking her into custody, but we were told to suspend it until she was located,” he added.

Regarding the fact that the 53-year-old woman had been released on probation by the French court, Mr. Vyronos explained that this is provided for under the French legal system.

As he said, certain conditions had been imposed, and when the French authorities needed to locate her to proceed with the proceedings, the woman had left her place of residence.

When asked whether he knew if a new warrant had been issued or if any other measures had been taken by the French authorities, Mr. Vyronos replied that he was not aware of the details of the procedure followed in France, adding that “they will certainly proceed with the necessary steps to locate her and carry out the court’s orders, that is, to have her handed over to the Cypriot authorities.”

It should be noted that the 53-year-old Lithuanian real estate agent was arrested on May 16 at the Nice airport, pursuant to a European arrest warrant issued by the Republic of Cyprus in connection with a case involving allegations of misappropriation of Greek Cypriot properties in the occupied areas. She had challenged the execution of the warrant, but the French court ultimately rejected her appeal.
