Mayor Giotis Papachristofis responds to the serious allegations regarding the work environment at the Municipality of Chrysochous.
The official position of the Mayor and the City Council regarding the allegations states that this is a “problematic situation.” In statements to KYPE, the Mayor of Chrysochous, Giotis Papachristofis, claimed that “ever since he was hired by the municipality, he has consistently caused problems.” He added that the employee in question had been given guidance, but “did not realize that he must behave appropriately, as all other employees do. Unfortunately, this particular employee wanted to do whatever he pleased.”
Mr. Papachristofis further claims that this employee “submits sick leave requests” and that his request was for a three-year leave of absence from the Municipality after he was accepted into college, which was not approved by the Municipal Council. He stated that the Municipality acted in the complainant’s case in accordance with a decision by the City Council.
It should be noted that the municipal traffic officer, who resigned, alleges in his resignation letter, among other things, workplace intimidation, bullying, and unequal and unfavorable treatment. For his part, the Mayor of Polis Chrysochous, Giotis Papachristofis, rejects the allegations.

The municipal traffic officer submitted his resignation a few days ago, which, according to reports, will take effect on October 13, 2026.
In his resignation letter, the employee reportedly makes serious allegations concerning, according to his claims, the Mayor and the City Council of Chrysochous.
Among other things, he cites incidents of workplace intimidation and bullying, as well as unequal and unfair treatment, expressing his strong dissatisfaction with the way in which, he claims, he was treated during his tenure.
According to what Alpha’s correspondent in Paphos, Kostas Nanos, reported on the “Alpha Kalimera” show, the traffic officer claims in the letters he sent—which were the last straw—that at a recent event with employees, the mayor had him removed—without even being present—and reportedly called him “a curse on the municipality.”
