A total of three people are being treated in the occupied territories for West Nile virus, the “Ministry of Health” announced.

According to reports from the occupied territories, it was announced that yesterday, Monday, two patients presented at healthcare facilities with symptoms of an upper respiratory tract infection, sore throat, fever, and fatigue. Both were admitted for treatment and tested positive for the West Nile virus, the report adds.

The “ministry” reports that the condition of the two has improved since yesterday and their lives are not in danger.

At the same time, it is noted that an asymptomatic individual tested positive for the West Nile virus during routine blood tests.

The health of all patients is being closely monitored, the report states.

As reported in the occupied areas, the “municipality” of Nicosia is conducting inspections with seven teams to identify any mosquito breeding sites and prevent the formation of larvae.

Veterinarian Erkut Ozgora, head of the “environmental and health department” of the “municipality” Nicosia, stated that as part of mosquito control efforts, teams are continuing to spray areas where mosquitoes can breed, including containers filled with water, unused ponds, decaying tanks, sewers, ponds around the wastewater treatment plant in Mia Milia, and all ponds and areas with high concentrations of water.

The “mayor” of Nicosia, Mehmet Harmanci, stated that he is in consultation with the “Ministry of Health” and noted that mosquitoes “know no borders, and combating them is a shared responsibility of all parties.”

Biologist and environmental education specialist Turkai Oiken stated that there is no reason to panic, but there is a clear ecological reality that cannot be ignored, and cases of West Nile virus must be addressed with a scientific approach from a public health perspective.
