A key prosecution witness testified today before the Paphos Permanent Criminal Court, where the trial of the suspended Mayor of Paphos, Faidon Faidonos, which is being held behind closed doors.
According to information from CNA, the witness is a high-ranking officer of the Cyprus Police who was summoned by the representative of the Prosecution; during the period in question, during which the offense is alleged to have been committed, was serving in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Police Headquarters.
The witness’s testimony was followed by cross-examination by the defendant’s defense attorneys, Christos Pourgourides and Nontas Korakides.
Today, the suspended Mayor of Paphos, Faidonas Faidonos, appeared before the Permanent Criminal Court sitting in Paphos. The Criminal Court set the next court dates for October 15 and 16, at 9:00 a.m.
A witness who was expected to testify at the previous hearing was unable to appear today either, due to a health issue that arose and his hospitalization at a private hospital in Nicosia. According to information from CNA, his health condition is good; however, he must remain at rest.
So far, the complainant has not testified; according to reports, she is expected to be the last to testify and will give her testimony via videoconference.
The defendant has pleaded not guilty to all five charges he faces.
