Five days after the much-discussed meeting between Anita Dimitriou, Averof Neophytou, George Pamboridis, and Frixos Koulermos in Pindarou, which led to the DISY President’s decision to withdraw her candidacy for the party’s nomination in the 2028 presidential election, the DISY Press Office issued a statement today characterizing Ms. Dimitriou’s decision as “a decision of responsibility and victory for the party.”
Read the statement:
“The decision by Democratic Rally President Annita Dimitriou is a decision of responsibility and victory for the party.
By placing the collective interest above her personal aspirations, she has ensured everyone’s participation in democratic processes and their commitment to respect the members’ verdict by supporting the candidate who emerges. She thus laid the groundwork for a united path toward the 2028 presidential election.
Unity is the essential prerequisite for us to fight this battle with confidence. The President’s initiative creates the conditions, and safeguarding them is now the responsibility of all of us.
We are proceeding in a coordinated manner toward selecting our candidate, based on the decisions of our collective bodies and with respect for the equal participation of every contender. The floor is now open to our members.
We call on all party officials to contribute to a substantive political dialogue, with mutual respect and adherence to the rules of ethics. We must all act responsibly, avoiding the repetition of old scenarios, petty remarks, and personal attacks.
Together with our President, our leadership, and our members, we are working toward a common goal: a strong and united Democratic Alarm, with its own candidate and a credible governance proposal, for victory in 2028 and the future of Cyprus.”
