Nea Salamina has lodged strong complaints about the refereeing in the match against APOEL, with the team’s press officer, Loizos Moiseos, highlighting specific plays in comments he made to SPOR FM 95.

As he noted, there are questions both about the VAR’s failure to intervene in the Sastre incident—where a yellow card was issued—and about the penalty call.

At the same time, he revealed that the club’s management is considering filing a complaint, with final decisions expected after reviewing the disputed plays.

Here is what he said in detail:

On the match against APOEL: “It was a game in which we fought hard; we put in a good performance. We saw an improvement compared to other matches, as the coach also noted after the game. I’m pleased with the effort, but we’re not happy with the result or the way it came about.”

On the officiating: “We have strong complaints about the officiating, specifically regarding certain plays involving both the referee and the VAR; questions arise about when VAR can intervene; in the Sastre incident, it didn’t intervene, and a yellow card was simply issued. The same goes for the penalty incident, where many people told me it wasn’t a penalty. We’re considering filing a complaint, but this should give all the relevant authorities pause. There were clearly mistakes, and that’s where we focused. The management will review the plays, and we’ll see what action we’ll take. We will take steps to protect our team. Management will review the matter, and everyone will receive an official update once decisions have been made.”

Regarding the future and the current situation: “Everything will be clarified within the week. The game against APOEL is in the past; we’re now focusing on the match against Apollon. The team is beginning its preparations; we’re optimistic and will prepare accordingly for the match.”
