Sporting dominated lens

First victory for sabah
ALPHANEWSLIVE

Sporting had a great day thanks to Kaike Pereira, who made some key saves, took the lead midway through the first half, and celebrated a big away win that put them on track early on to advance in the Champions League with a 2-0 win over Lens. In the final five minutes, Fotis Ioannidis came on to replace Luis Suárez, who had scored the “Lions’” first goal, while Doumbia netted the second.

Lens started the match well and tried to create threats mainly down the right flank, with Toven serving as the driving force for the French team, while Haidara, Abdulhamid, and Kantilé each having their moments before the first quarter of the match was over. After the 20th minute, Sporting began to play more aggressively, and in the 22nd minute, following a very nice combination, the ball ended up on the left wing, to Irankunda, who nicely crossed the ball to the near post, where Luis Suárez darted in with a first-time shot on the run to make it 0-1. In the 32nd minute, the Sporting striker nearly extended the “Lions’” lead, but Richer made an impressive save to send the ball out for a corner. Two minutes later, Lens came close to equalizing when Ivanović hit the crossbar, while in the 36th minute, Haidara had another attempt, but Caike Pereira made a crucial save.

The Brazilian goalkeeper made another outstanding save in the 59th minute on a shot by the player from Mali to preserve Sporting’s lead, while in the 61st minute, Risser made an outstanding save with his foot on a shot by João Simões. In the 74th minute, Sporting essentially sealed its second win in as many matches in the Champions League group stage, as Andersen, with a superb pass into open space, set up Issa Doubia, who beat Richer—who was coming off his line—with a right-footed outside-of-the-foot shot to make it 0-2. In the 85th minute, Fotis Ioannidis came on for Luis Suárez, as Sporting secured its second three-point win in as many matches.

In the other match played earlier, Sabah earned its first three points in the history of the Champions League group stage, with Jamaican player Kahim Paris, seeing his goal disallowed by a matter of centimeters for offside in the first half, but in the second half, he scored with a beautiful left-footed shot just inside the penalty area, while in the 88th minute, Joey Lance Michels capitalized on Markovics’ mistake to make it 2-0 with a long-range shot.
