The trial of Paphos Mayor Faidon Faidonos, who is currently on administrative leave, continues today in Criminal Court; he is accused of rape. The cross-examination of the complainant, which began last week over the course of two court sessions, is expected to conclude today.
Following the completion of the complainant’s cross-examination, two more witnesses from the prosecution’s list remain to testify.
According to reports, these are a police officer and businessman Theodoros Aristodemou, who has not yet testified due to health reasons.
Once the prosecution witnesses have completed their testimony, the Criminal Court will rule on whether there is a prima facie case. If it determines that there is sufficient evidence, witnesses for the defense will then be called to testify.
Based on the procedures followed, it is estimated that by the end of the year, the trial of this high-profile case will be concluded and a verdict will be handed down.
