Limassol is changing; the EOA is adapting

Focusing on citizens and development
ALPHANEWSLIVE

Limassol is growing at a breakneck pace. The entire city resembles a massive construction site. Buildings are springing up in every neighborhood.

This rapid growth and the influx of many companies into Limassol have led to an increase in population, housing demand, and rents, resulting in a gap between the supply and demand for housing units.

To alleviate the problem, the Limassol Planning and Development Authority is paying special attention to the licensing of residential units, with the result that in the first half of 2026, more homes were licensed in Limassol than in any other district, exceeding 3,500 units—a remarkable 62% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

The numbers speak for themselves

The progress in Limassol’s construction activity is reflected in the official data from the Cyprus Statistical Service.

In the first half of 2026, 1,208 building permits were issued in Limassol, compared to 900 during the same period in 2025, marking a 35% increase.

The total licensed area amounted to 720,000 square meters, up 35%, while the total value of licensed projects reached €853 million, representing a 35% increase.

In both of these key growth indicators, Limassol ranks first in Cyprus.

This progress does not negate the difficulties that the city’s residents and professionals continue to face, nor do they diminish the need for faster and more efficient processing of licensing applications.

A meaningful assessment of the situation cannot be limited to listing percentage changes and monthly results. The challenge is to ensure that the impact of these figures is felt by citizens and that they meet the needs and expectations of society and the economy.

Focusing on citizens and the development of Limassol

Our steadfast goal remains to better serve citizens and support the economy by improving the efficiency of the licensing process, enhancing internal organization, scientific planning, the rational use of available resources, more effective coordination of services, and merit-based staffing with carefully selected personnel.

The EOA supports Limassol, which is growing at a breakneck pace and evolving into a modern, vibrant city and an international business hub.
