Extensive damage was caused by a fire that broke out Monday night in an apartment on the first floor of a three-story building in Larnaca. A neighbor who attempted to extinguish the fire before the fire department arrived was treated by an ambulance crew but did not need to be taken to the hospital.
In a statement, the Fire Department reported that the call regarding the fire was received at 9:39 p.m. last night, and the Larnaca Fire Stations responded with three fire trucks. The fire was subsequently brought under control at 10:54 p.m., and at the time of the incident, the residents were away from the home.
The fire and the heat caused extensive damage to the hallway and stairwell, as well as their contents, the report adds.
“The smoke and hot gases affected the rest of the first and second floors. A neighbor, who attempted to extinguish the fire before the Fire Department arrived, received medical attention from members of the ambulance crew called to the scene, and it was not necessary to transport him to the hospital,” the report adds.
It is also reported that personnel were recalled to meet the operational needs of the Larnaca district. The causes of the fire will be investigated in cooperation with the relevant authorities.
