Everything he mentions in his post

Charalambos Stavridis has leveled criticism at Haris Georgiadis, bringing his stance during the 2003 presidential election back into the spotlight.

In a post on social media, Mr. Stavridis emphasizes that he will support whoever the DISY members choose, stressing that this should be the stance of all those who consider themselves front-line party officials.

“In any case, I will respect the decision of the majority of DISY members and will support whoever they choose as the party’s candidate in the upcoming presidential election,” he stated emphatically.

At the same time, referring to previous public statements, Mr. Stavridis argues that the possibility of Haris Georgiadis not supporting Averof Neophytou is not the first time he would fail to back the party’s candidate.

As she points out, in the 2003 presidential election, Haris Georgiadis had publicly and actively supported Alekos Markidis, who ran as an independent candidate against the then-DISY candidate, Glafkos Clerides.

“If Averof Neophytou chooses to be the DISY candidate, this will NOT be the first time that our dear Haris Georgiadis has failed to support the party’s choice,” he states.

Mr. Stavridis even links the split during that period to the election of Tassos Papadopoulos as President of the Republic in the first round, with the support of AKEL.

“The tragic outcome of that split —for which we are still paying dearly to this day in the Cyprus issue—was the election of Tassos Papadopoulos with the support of AKEL in the first round of the presidential elections,” he asserts.

In conclusion, Charalambos Stavridis notes that he made this specific post “to set the historical record straight.”
