Aris celebrated a significant 2-1 victory over Anorthosis at the “Alphamega Stadium” in the 8th matchday of the Cyprus League by Stoiximan. The “Light Brigade” turned the match on its head, completing the comeback with a buzzer-beater by Matisik in the final minute of stoppage time.
At the press conference following the game, Artem Radkov and Barak Itzagi analyzed the match, sharing their views on their teams’ performances. Both the coach of the “Light Brigade” and the coach of the “Lady” highlighted the key moments that decided the game and the performance of their players.
Key points
Artyom Radzhkov (Aris): “Emotions run high after a victory like this, especially given how it came about. We expected a game like this, against a team that pushes hard and applies intense pressure. When you score the winning goal in the final minutes, it’s only natural for emotions to run high.
We’re very happy not only with the result, but also with the performance and character our players displayed. They showed that they want to win games under any circumstances. This is particularly important to us, as we have a young team. In fact, today, some of our young players took on leadership roles, which sends a very positive message to us.
They tried to step up and take responsibility at crucial moments. Sometimes their efforts were effective, and other times they weren’t. They made mistakes, too, but that’s not a problem for me as a coach. I’m truly pleased with their willingness to take risks, take the initiative, and finish plays at crucial moments.
Of course, I also want to thank our fans…”
Barack Itzagi (Anorthosis): “It’s disappointing to concede a goal in the final minute. The players worked hard. We certainly need to improve our quality, but today we faced a truly excellent team. Arsenal is an exceptional team. We were close to finishing the match with a point.
I always want the three points, but conceding a goal in the 95th minute isn’t something we like. We have to look ahead, though. We already have Sunday’s game against Omonia, and despite our disappointment, we have to move on and do much better in the next game.”
