History was made in Mexico! Kimi Antonelli didn’t let the opportunity slip away and clinched the championship in Mexico City at the 19th Grand Prix of the Formula 1 season.
The Italian Mercedes driver won the race and, combined with George Russell’s ninth-place finish and Lewis Hamilton’s sixth, clinched the title. It was a moment he had dreamed of since childhood and managed to make a reality at just 20 years old.
Young Antonelli, a boy from Bologna, made history. He came to Formula 1 to stay, and he proved it in his second season in the top flight. He joined the club of champions and became only the third Italian to win the title—and the first since 1953.
At the same time, he dethroned Lando Norris, who had won the championship last season, and became the 36th different driver in Formula 1 history to win the world title.
