“If I had been on the ballot, we would have won by a landslide!”: Trump refuses to admit personal defeat

The U.S. President has not stopped posting on truth social

Donald Trump stated yesterday, Tuesday, that “he accepts” the results of the midterm elections held halfway through his second term as president, as a massive wave of Democrats sweeps the country, but he denied responsibility.

“I am fully prepared to accept these results,” he told The New York Times. “We will work together with the Democrats. We’re eager, you know, to work with them. We’ll likely find common ground,” he added.

Faced with the opposition’s sweeping gains, which give it full control of Congress—both the House of Representatives and the Senate—the head of state did not appear willing to challenge the verdict of the ballot box.

This was by no means a given, as the 80-year-old tycoon continues to this very day to deny his defeat in the 2020 presidential election by Democrat Joe Biden, while making new allegations of fraud ahead of the midterms.

In any case, the Republican president seems in no way willing to admit that he suffered a personal defeat yesterday, even though it is clear that the majority of Americans cast a protest vote against his record, especially regarding the war in Iran and the rise in the cost of living—particularly gas prices—that he caused.

“I wasn’t on the ballot” and “if I had been, we would have won in a landslide!” the tycoon stated via Truth Social, capitalizing the last word as he usually does.

However, during the campaign, he repeatedly urged his supporters to vote “as if” he were on the ballot.

A White House official told Agence France-Presse that his aides remain undeterred. And “one final warning”: regardless of the outcome, “President Trump will be even more determined to stop the radical left. Buckle up.”

The president “wasn’t on the ballot, and it’s been proven that Trump voters turn out to vote when he’s on the ballot,” said the same source, who added that the “quality” of the presidential ticket’s candidates was unsatisfactory.

Mr. Trump “campaigned more than the candidates themselves,” she added, referring to the president’s dozens of campaign appearances.

However, it was the U.S. president himself who played a decisive role in selecting the party’s candidates in key races.

   “Against Me”

President Trump’s bad mood had been evident many hours before the election results began to take shape.

Within a short time, the 80-year-old tycoon posted three messages on Truth Social in which he launched an attack against Fox News, the television network favored by the American right, claiming that it was deliberately trying to harm him,

In one of his posts, he called a political analyst on the set “dumb as a rock”; in a second, he criticized the network’s polls, seeing the questions as “attacks” against him personally, as the polls reflected Americans’ dissatisfaction with his record. “They’re out to get me,” he claimed in a third post, arguing that Fox News’s ratings were falling because of this.

Following the Democrats’ victory in the elections, it is virtually certain that President Trump will face investigations by the House of Representatives.

And since control of the Senate has also been lost, he loses the ability to make appointments, especially if any of the nine seats on the U.S. Supreme Court become vacant, whose members essentially serve for life.

President Trump had already made it clear that he would exercise his veto power at every turn and, more generally, defy Congress if the Democrats regained control of it. Moreover, he retains significant room for maneuver on both the diplomatic and military fronts, even if the expected “blue wave” (referring to the color associated with the opposition) is confirmed. It also retains significant room for maneuver on both the diplomatic and military fronts.
