There’s good news for Kawhi Leonard and the Raptors, as the 35-year-old forward has successfully completed treatment for the swelling he was experiencing in his left knee.
As the team announced, Leonard is now entering the “return to play” process—that is, the gradual reintegration program before he returns to competitive action. He will remain sidelined for at least three more games, and an update on his condition is expected in a week.
As things stand, the earliest he could return is on November 11 against the Celtics.
Leonard had played in the first two games of the season, averaging 19.5 points and 7.5 rebounds, before being sidelined due to his knee injury. Without him, the Raptors are 2-3 in the five games that followed.
The two-time NBA Finals MVP returned to Toronto this summer, rejoining the team with which he had won the 2019 championship, and agreed to a $115 million contract extension that could keep him with the Raptors through the 2028–29 season.
