Police authorities are in full mobilization to locate the MP5 submachine gun that a police officer lost yesterday in Halandri.
The spokesperson for the Hellenic Police, Konstantia Dimoglidou, speaking to SKAI today, confirming that, despite extensive searches in the area, the submachine gun has not yet been found.
As she explained, immediately after the authorities were notified, the prosecutor was alerted, a case file was opened against the police officer, and he was subsequently arrested. The officer now faces both criminal and disciplinary charges for the loss of his service weapon.
Ms. Dimoglidou stated that all of the equipment the officer was responsible for had been located except for the submachine gun, which is still being sought.
“The weapon has not been found. Police officers are searching for it, while they are also reviewing surveillance footage in the area,” she noted.
At the same time, he emphasized that the secure storage of service weapons and public property is a serious obligation for every police officer, noting that under no circumstances can this be treated as a mere case of negligent safekeeping.
According to the Hellenic Police spokesperson, an extensive operation has been underway in the wider Halandri area from the very beginning, involving officers from the Security Division and the DIAS unit. Investigations are continuing with the aim of locating the weapon, as its loss raises public safety concerns beyond the issue of responsibility for the management of service equipment.
Finally, Ms. Dimoglidou appealed to the public, asking anyone who finds anything related to the case to immediately notify the police.
