Gas station owners are in favor of the proposed law requiring a detailed breakdown of individual charges on fuel receipts, emphasizing that consumers need to know how the final amount they pay is calculated. Speaking on the “Alpha Kalimera” program, Christodoulos Christodoulou, spokesperson for the Gas Station Owners Association, expressed the industry’s support for this initiative.

As he noted, gas station owners had repeatedly expressed their support, even before the proposal was brought before Parliament. “We are in favor of this measure regarding receipts, because citizens need to know, for every euro they pay, how much goes toward taxes and what the value of the product is,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of transparency in the market.

Referring to the concerns raised by companies during the discussion of the proposal, Mr. Christodoulou suggested that they might relate to technical issues, which can be addressed. “I think it’s about some technical issues, but all of these can be resolved. There’s no reason why it shouldn’t happen,” he said, noting that gas station owners consider the implementation of the measure necessary.

At the same time, he recalled that this specific issue had been a concern for the industry about two years ago, though no legislative action was taken at that time. Regarding the proposal’s progress, he expressed the view that it would move forward soon, citing consensus among the members of the relevant parliamentary committee and anticipating a similar stance during the vote.

Finally, when asked about current prices at gas stations, the Association’s Press Spokesperson noted that there have been slight decreases in gasoline prices, but not in diesel. As he explained, the market is stabilizing, though this does not mean that fuel prices have returned to low levels, as they remain high.
