ALPHANEWSLIVE

The Police are informing the public that on Saturday, November 7, 2026, the APOEL Sports Club will be organizing a series of anniversary events in Nicosia to mark the 100th anniversary of its founding.

The events will take place primarily at the APOEL headquarters and in the wider area of Nicosia’s historic center, with the participation of fans, club members, athletes, veteran athletes, and other guests.

According to the schedule, Fan Day will begin at 5:00 p.m. at APOEL’s headquarters, while at 6:00 p.m. an anniversary torch relay will take place, starting at the former Hatzioannou pastry shop at 138–140 Ledras Street, and ending at the Club’s current headquarters.

During the torchlight procession, participants will pass through Makarios Avenue. To ensure the event proceeds safely, temporary traffic controls or road closures may be implemented.

Following that, an anniversary photography exhibition and an awards ceremony will take place, while the celebrations will culminate at midnight, marking the 100th anniversary of APOEL’s founding.

Due to the expected increase in the number of fans and visitors, as well as the torch relay, traffic flow in the historic center of Nicosia and on streets along the torch relay route may be temporarily disrupted.

In addition, during the evening and late-night hours, there may be an increase in the movement of sports fans. Consequently, additional traffic management measures may be implemented or temporary traffic restrictions may be enforced, if deemed necessary by the Police for security purposes and to ensure public order.

Police officers will be on site to implement the necessary safety and traffic measures, as well as to direct and facilitate traffic flow.

The public is asked to avoid, whenever possible, driving in the historic center of Nicosia during the events, to plan their travel in advance, and to comply with the instructions of police officers.

It should be noted that, in accordance with the provisions of the Public Assemblies and Parades Law of 2025 (Law No. 151(I)/2025), the organizer of a public assembly or parade, if one has been designated, must cooperate with the police, the Officer in Charge, and the competent local administrative authority, as well as comply with their instructions, thereby contributing to the smooth and peaceful conduct of the event.

Furthermore, in accordance with the aforementioned legislation, the police may, where deemed necessary and under the conditions provided for by law, issue instructions and impose restrictions regarding the conduct of a public gathering or parade, including the route, the time and location of the event, as well as the management of traffic flow.

In cases where the legal requirements are met, the Police may also take the measures provided for by law, including the dispersal of a gathering or parade, in accordance with the relevant procedures and safeguards set forth therein.
