Orange APOEL fans “painted” Ledra Street in Nicosia orange on Saturday afternoon as part of the celebrations marking the club’s 100th anniversary. The team’s fans created a unique atmosphere with chants and songs.
The event was also attended by the company’s investor, Savvas Liasis, as well as former players who have left their mark on the club’s history. Among them were Petrakis Hatzithomas and Takis Antoniou, the club’s president, Costas Schizas, as well as the former mayor of Nicosia, Konstantinos Giorkatzis.
The Minister of the Interior, Konstantinos Ioannou, delivered a greeting: “We are in a special place. Here, a century ago, a club was founded that left an indelible mark. I don’t think the founders back then could have imagined the magnitude of this success.
Generations of people have grown up with APOEL’s colors and emblem. APOEL is more than just a soccer team. APOEL isn’t just about the titles; it’s about the people, the values, and the memories it creates. One of the greatest memories is reaching the Champions League quarterfinals,” he said, among other things.
In turn, the club’s president, Costas Schizas, said, among other things: “100 years full of history and successes that have made thousands of APOEL fans proud. APOEL has made its mark on society as well, with people who upheld the values they believed in. APOEL has become a legend through its matches and achievements.”
It should be noted that Nicosia City Hall was illuminated in blue and yellow. The event on Ledra Street marked the start of the two-day anniversary celebration, with the torch relay beginning at the Ledra 138-140 Pastry Shop and ending at the Club.
Of course, the celebrations will culminate on Sunday (November 8), APOEL’s birthday, with events both before and after the match against Aris (7:00 p.m.) at the GSP Stadium.
