Averof Neophytou and George Pamporidis are in the midst of a short but quite grueling election campaign; they have been at the party headquarters for the past few days.
Their main goal is to convince the party to endorse their candidacy so they can secure the nomination for the November 28 election.
The party’s former president sends a message at every public appearance that his candidacy is one destined for victory in 2028.
AVEROF NEOPHYTOU—Former DISY President/Candidate for the Nomination“
“On November 28, you are not choosing DISY’s candidate for the presidency; you are choosing the next President of the Republic.”
Giorgos Pamporidis also has his own connections with the party base; in addition to the positions he advocates, also explains the risk that the party could face difficult times if it loses the presidential election for the second time in a row.
GEORGE PAMPORIDIS – Member of Parliament / Candidate for the Nomination “The
Democratic Alarm must not relive the experience of 2023. It is vital that we learn from our mistakes, because otherwise our very party will be threatened.”
If there is one political party that holds one of the keys to the presidential election, it is none other than DIKO.
The party leadership has recently been in contact with party officials, conducting a mini-poll on the possibility of DIKO remaining on the side of Nikos Christodoulides in the election campaign that will officially begin in early 2027.
However, there also appear to be some pushback, as well as calls for the party leadership to explore the possibility of cooperating with one of the two major parties.
As for AKEL, the internal party debate centers on whether to field a candidate from within the party itself—with Stefanos Stefanou holding a clear lead —or whether an effort will be made to find a figure who would be more widely accepted in the political arena beyond the Left.
Stefanos Stefanou explained the role AKEL wishes to play during his remarks last night at the International Symposium on the Left, held as part of the 100th anniversary of the KKE–AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou
, AKEL General Secretary: “We
must be aware of the priorities, understand the fears, listen to the concerns and expectations of the majority of society, and formulate policies that convincingly address its needs.”
In recent days, the debate over political courtship between ELAM and the President’s Office has grown increasingly intense, with Christos Christou stating that there is still plenty of time before the party makes any decisions.
He also made it clear that for any cooperation with a presidential candidate to take place, part of the party’s policies would have to be adopted.
ELAM, moreover, is prepared even for the possibility of running independently with its own candidate.
