“We are neither the ruling party nor the opposition,” says the ELAM
MP
He states that his relationship with DISY has ended, but he does not intend to seek any position within ELAM’s governing bodies. Andreas Papacharalambous denies claims of an internal party divide between old and new leadership, and considers the shift of the public toward more right-wing parties a natural development.
The Nicosia MP maintains that his ELAM is neither part of the ruling coalition nor the opposition, and that it judges the President and ministers based on their track record. Reiterating his party’s disagreement with Christodoulides on the Cyprus issue, he notes that it is utopian to believe that bicommunal dialogue will lead to a solution.
Regarding the presidential elections, Andreas Papacharalambous states that it is possible for ELAM to run its own candidate or to support another candidate; however, he makes it clear that whatever the party’s decision may be, it will never oppose Nicos Christodoulides.
Finally, he expresses the hope that ELAM will be part of the next government, while emphasizing that in a runoff election, his party should not be taken for granted by anyone.
