MUSKITA Aluminium Industries is particularly proud to announce its support for an important initiative to protect the critically endangered (Blackchin Guitarfish – Glaucostegus cemiculus) in Cyprus. The project, titled “Mark, Measure, Conserve: Empowering Fishers to Monitor the Critically Endangered Blackchin Guitarfish in Cyprus,” which began in June 2026, is being implemented by the Marine and Environmental Research (MER) Lab with the support of the Cyprus Environment Foundation (CEF).
The initiative is part of MUSKITA’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program and aims to advance scientific knowledge about one of the most endangered marine species in the Mediterranean, while also strengthening the involvement of professional fishermen in conservation efforts. Through data collection, monitoring, tagging, and outreach activities, the project aims to strengthen conservation measures for the species and contribute to its long-term survival in Cypriot waters.
The guitarfish has suffered a dramatic population decline throughout its range and is currently classified as Critically Endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Despite its serious conservation status, there remain significant knowledge gaps regarding its presence, movements, and population trends in Cyprus, a fact that makes targeted monitoring efforts particularly important.
For MUSKITA, supporting this initiative represents yet another substantial step in the context of its long-standing commitment to protecting the environment and biodiversity.
Ms. Anna Mouski, Marketing Manager at MUSKITA Aluminium Industries, stated: “This is the first year that MUSKITA has supported this project, and we are particularly proud to be contributing to the protection of a critically endangered species. We believe that businesses have an important role to play in safeguarding our natural heritage, and we remain committed to supporting initiatives that have a meaningful and lasting positive impactimpact on the environment.”
As the first company in Cyprus to adopt and support a specialized program for the guitarfish, MUSKITA actively contributes both to raising public awareness and to advancing scientific research and conservation efforts for the species.
This initiative reflects the company’s long-standing commitment to the principles of responsible business and environmental sustainability. Through partnerships with organizations at the forefront of environmental protection, MUSKITA continues to invest in initiatives that protect biodiversity, strengthen local communities, and contribute to building a more sustainable future for Cyprus.
Through this partnership, MUSKITA aims to increase knowledge and raise awareness about the protection of vulnerable marine ecosystems, inspiring collective action to preserve Cyprus’s unique natural heritage.
