Makarios Drousiotis raised over 52,000 euros following his public appeal for financial support to cover his legal expenses through crowdfunding.
Specifically, as Mr. Drousiotis noted in a post, “in just 36 hours, the campaign raised €50,000.” After deducting commissions and other fees charged by GoGetFunding and PayPal, the net amount totals €46,586.49. This amount is deposited in a separate PayPal account, which contains no personal funds of mine.”
At the same time, as he notes, citizens who were unable to use the platform made donations to two of his personal accounts.

“For the sake of complete transparency and to keep it separate from my personal funds, I’ve consolidated all donations into a Revolut account, which is used exclusively for crowdfunding purposes. There is currently €3,188.14 in this account. An additional €3,100—which was given to me in cash by friends who did not want to, were unable to, or did not have time to use another payment method—will also be deposited into this same account.”
Thus, the total amount raised comes to €52,874.63, with Drousiotis stating that “this money is sacred and will be used exclusively for the purpose for which it was donated.”
He adds that, to ensure full transparency and accountability, all accounts, receipts, and payments will be audited by a certified auditing firm, and the relevant financial report will be made public.
“I thank all the citizens who have contributed, those who were unable to do so in time, and those who were unable to contribute financially but gave me their moral support. After all, what is at stake concerns society as a whole. It concerns every journalist’s right to investigate those in power without being threatened with financial ruin and imprisonment. With its unprecedented response, society not only supported me but also took a clear stand in favor of investigative journalism, freedom of speech, and the rule of law.”
