There will also be a disbursement for 2026, the President of the Republic reportedly told the President of the Association of Laiki Bank Depositors (SYKALA) during a phone call they had on Sunday, according to an announcement the Association made to its members, which it released to the public.
According to the announcement, President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides spoke by phone yesterday, Sunday, with the President of SYKALA and informed him that there will also be a disbursement for 2026, “without, however, specifying amounts, percentages, etc., which will be decided and announced shortly, following the necessary consultations.” The Association notes that in 2025, they succeeded “to secure a disbursement, as had been agreed upon with the President of the Republic,” and that this year, they had intensified their efforts to ensure continuity similar to that of 2025.
As reported, the President of the Republic’s phone call with the President of SYKALA was followed by a meeting between the Association and President Christodoulides last Wednesday, after it was confirmed at a meeting of the National Solidarity Fund Committee that there would be no disbursement plan in 2026.
“Our reaction was immediate and strong, on all fronts,” SYKALA states, among other things, in the announcement. It notes that during the meeting with the President of the Republic, “intense efforts were made and exerted, which appear to have begun to bear fruit.”
SYKALA thanks the President of the Republic “for the constructive and conciliatory stance he demonstrated during our meeting and in his subsequent actions, which are ongoing.”
The Association assures its members that its efforts “will continue uninterrupted, despite the obstacles that arise from time to time.”
