Brent crude oil fell below $100 per barrel, for the first time in nearly a month, as markets believe that a Democratic election victory in the U.S. could pave the way for a de-escalation of the conflict with Iran.
The Democrats attributed the decline to Donald Trump’s decisions to impose tariffs and escalate tensions with Iran, scoring a major electoral victory and gaining control of Congress.
At the same time, the stock markets reacted positively. As soon as it became clear that the U.S. president had accepted his defeat almost “stoically,” the markets rebounded from initial losses to post strong gains, with investors assessing that the new political landscape could serve as a counterweight to the White House’s decisions.
