Three people were killed in Houthi attacks on airports in Saudi Arabia, the kingdom’s airport authorities announced yesterday; Saudi Arabia supports the Yemeni government against pro-Iranian militants.
The international airport in Abha, in the southwestern part of the country, and the airport in the capital, Riyadh, “were targeted in attacks on their facilities on Tuesday and today (Wednesday),” the General Directorate of Civil Aviation said in a statement, adding that citizens of Egypt, Algeria, and Sudan were killed, while 36 others were injured.
The statement does not name the Houthis, but rather those who have claimed responsibility in recent hours for the attacks on these two airports.
Specifically, one person was killed and eight were injured in an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, while two others were killed and 28 were injured in an attack on facilities at Abha Airport.
One of the attacks took place on Wednesday and the other on Tuesday, according to the statement, though it did not specify when each airport was struck.
