The ongoing occupation of part of the Republic of Cyprus and the rapid developments in the region require constant vigilance and make the National Guard’s operational readiness on land, sea, and air, states the Chief of the National Guard, Lieutenant General Emmanouil Theodorou, in his Daily Order marking the Feast of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos, Patroness of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Cyprus.
Lieutenant General Theodorou notes that the National Guard is changing and modernizing, adopting new technologies and incorporating modern procedures, with the aim of becoming more flexible and effective.
At the same time, he emphasizes that, through continuous training, daily operations, and high-level cooperation with friendly nations, the National Guard continues to be “the pillar of our people’s security and the guarantor of stability in the region.”

In the Daily Order, the Commander of the National Guard describes today as a day of celebration for the National Guard personnel, who, as he notes, through their loyalty to duty and dedication to their mission, has earned the love and trust of the Cypriot people, as well as for the country’s young soldiers, “the present and the future” of Cyprus.
Referring to the ongoing occupation, he emphasizes that the National Guard remains on the “national front lines” as the defender of the ancestral homeland and declares that, fully aware of its mission, it will continue to remain constantly ready “until justice and legality are restored in our partially occupied homeland.”
Meanwhile, the official celebration of the Armed Forces Day of the Republic of Cyprus took place today, Tuesday, September 8, with a thanksgiving service at the Cathedral of St. Barnabas.
The event was attended by Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas, members of parliament, the Commander of the National Guard, the Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Defense, Stelios Kountouris, and the senior leadership of the National Guard General Staff. Also in attendance were representatives of government agencies and local authorities, as well as retired officers and non-commissioned officers who served in the National Guard.
