Harry Kane did not hide his emotion after winning the Ballon d'Or, emphasizing that receiving the award in London held special significance for him.
“Wow, I’m speechless! Thank goodness I have this list in front of me. Thank you to France Football for organizing this wonderful event. The fact that we’re in London makes the evening even more special. It felt like a good omen for me tonight,” he said.
The English forward also made sure to mention Vincent Kompany, wishing him well, as, he said, Kompany was still in the hospital. “I hope he’s doing well, and I hope this award gave him a little energy,” he noted.
He also made a special mention of Tottenham, acknowledging its contribution to his journey to the top of world soccer.
“I want to thank Tottenham. I certainly wouldn’t be here without them. I’ve been there since I was 11. All the guidance and training I received allowed me to live my dream. All the good and difficult moments along this journey have led me here today,” said the new Ballon d’Or winner.
