Matija Spoljaric has retired from soccer!
The Cypriot athlete of Serbian descent announced that he is hanging up his cleats in a video he posted on social media. After a total of 175 appearances, 22 goals, and 13 assists, the 29-year-old is retiring from active play to begin a new chapter in his life.
Spoliartis began his career in Apollon’s youth system, moved to Spain at a young age to join Atlético Madrid’s youth teams, and subsequently played for Toledo’s reserve team
After returning to our island, he was re-signed by the “blue-and-whites,” and during the remainder of his career, he played successively for Alki, AEK, Anorthosis, and Aris. The final stop in his career was Karmiotissa, from which he became a free agent this past summer.
In addition, he was a member of our national team, having made his debut on March 21, 2019. Wearing the national emblem on his chest, he made 15 appearances. At a younger age, he played for the youth teams of both Cyprus and Serbia.
