Bordeaux is officially out of the French national soccer leagues!
The historic club has long been plagued by serious financial problems, which have forced it to take a back seat, with its most recent appearance in France’s top division dating back to the 2021–22 season.
A few days ago, the DNCG (National Management Control Directorate) sanctioned Bordeaux with exclusion from all national competitions, because the club’s management failed to raise the 10 million euros required to balance its budget ahead of the new season, a decision that was also upheld by the appeals committee.
Thus, the six-time French champion, which finished last season competing in the fourth division, is now relegated to the sixth (also known as Regional 1), and as long as no new investor is found, the possibility of complete bankruptcy becomes increasingly likely.
