The worst-case scenario is now becoming a reality for Monaco!
On Sunday morning (August 30), it was announced that the French Basketball Federation (FFBB) had refused to reconsider the case of the Principality’s club, resulting in Monaco’s club being definitively and irrevocably excluded from France’s professional basketball leagues, with Monaco apparently no longer intending to appeal to the administrative court.
Despite the club’s significant efforts in recent months to present a sustainable business model ahead of the new season, having settled its past financial obligations and being essentially debt-free with a new budget of 6–7 million euros, nevertheless, yesterday, the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) decided that it could not review the new information, strictly adhering to the rules.
As a result, the FFBB today made the final decision not to reopen an audit “window” in Monaco, despite the clearly improved situation it presented, thereby excluding it not only from Betclic ELITE but also from ELITE 2!
Thus, the Principality’s historic club will have to compete in France’s third division starting next season, even though in previous years it had been a powerhouse in the country’s top leagues, having won 3 league titles, 4 French League Cups, and 2 French Cups.
The question now hanging in the air is what will happen with Monaco’s participation in the EuroCup, since the roster will be equivalent to that of France’s third division, with the club placed in Group 4 of the competition alongside PAOK.
This time, it’s official: AS Monaco has been excluded from the professional leagues!
The FFBB has refused to reopen the case, and the club reportedly has no plans to take the matter to administrative court…
