ELAM Statement on the Clash

ELAM issued a statement regarding the incident, emphasizing that the migrant issue remains unresolved and threatens the safety of citizens.

“The serious incidents that occurred last night in Xylofagou between Syrian asylum seekers serve as yet another reminder that the migration problem has not only not been resolved, but continues to threaten the safety and daily lives of citizens.

Those who were quick to celebrate that the migration crisis had been “resolved” are being proven wrong by reality itself. Incidents of violence and lawlessness prove that citizens continue to live with the consequences of a crisis that remains active.”

As the party adds, “we recognize that certain steps have been taken in the right direction. However, these are not enough. An even more decisive policy is needed, with zero tolerance toward those who exploit the asylum system and break the law. We call on the competent authorities to immediately proceed with the arrest of all those involved and to implement all procedures provided for by law, including deportation.”

“The safety of citizens cannot be put on the back burner. The Republic of Cyprus must send a clear message that lawlessness will not be tolerated. Tolerance only leads to new incidents. Syrians pose a direct threat, not only to public safety but also as a destabilizing factor through demographic change. “The state’s policies must aim first and foremost at their repatriation,” ELAM concludes.
