Tourist arrivals in August 2026 totaled 581,880, compared to 602,026 in August 2025, marking a 3.3% decrease from the record-breaking year. Compared to August 2024, arrivals were up 4.9%.
For the period January–August 2026, tourist arrivals totaled 2,820,649, compared with 3,034,155 during the corresponding period in 2025, marking a 7% decrease.
According to the Statistical Service, arrivals from the United Kingdom were the main source of tourism for August 2026, accounting for 30.5% (177,603) of total arrivals, arrivals from Israel accounted for 23.3% (135,628), arrivals from Poland for 6.3% (36,622), arrivals from Germany accounted for 4.4% (25,823), and arrivals from Sweden accounted for 3% (17,441).
The purpose of travel in August 2026 was vacation for 84.5% of tourists, visiting friends or relatives for 13%, and business for 2.4%. Similarly, for August 2025, 86.5% visited Cyprus for vacation, 11.4% to visit friends or relatives, and 2.1% for business reasons.
Return Trips by Cyprus Residents
Trips abroad by Cyprus residents in August 2026 totaled 239,337, compared to 238,740 in August 2025, marking a 0.3% increase.
The main countries from which Cyprus residents returned in August 2026 were Greece with 36.6% (87,684), the United Kingdom at 6.9% (16,448), Italy at 4.6% (11,054), Poland at 4.3% (10,408), and Russia at 4.2% (10,021).
The main purpose of travel for Cyprus residents in August 2026 was vacation, accounting for 93.1%, while business travel accounted for 5.9%, studies accounted for 0.8%, and other reasons for 0.2%.
