UEFA has appointed Chris Kavanagh to referee the match between AEK and Shakhtar in the second matchday of the Champions League group stage, this coming Wednesday at “Stamford Bridge.”
The English referee officiated Greece’s big victory over Germany (0-1) in the Nations League on September 27, and yesterday he officiated the Liverpool–Manchester City match (0–3) in the Premier League.

The other time he has officiated a match involving a Greek team was on August 15, 2024, in the second leg of the third qualifying round of the Europa League, when Panathinaikos was eliminated on penalty kicks by Ajax in Amsterdam.
On Wednesday, his assistants will be fellow Englishmen Dan Cook and Ian Housin, with Sam Barrot serving as the fourth official, and Stuart Atwell and Andrew Dallas handling VAR duties.
