Pindarou is sending a message of calm, even though the party machines and the candidates’ campaign teams are working full steam ahead behind the scenes. The collection of signatures continues, as does the initiative by veteran party officials to respect whatever the outcome may be.
Alpha reports that Giorgos Pamporidis and Nikos Anastasiadis met today in Limassol. Meanwhile, Haris Georgiadis also maintains close contact with the former president and is leaning toward ultimately not seeking the nomination. A meeting between the former president and Averof Neophytou is also expected soon.
“Christodoulides deserves reelection”
Nikos Tornaritis wants to see Christodoulides, Annita, and Averof seated at the same table to discuss DISY matters. On the “Uncensored” podcast, he insists that DISY should have collaborated with Nikos Christodoulides following Averof’s defeat in 2023.
“We’re not talking about marital relationships; we’re talking about what’s best for our country and our party. Nikos Christodoulides 100% deserves a second chance. The leadership should have worked with Nikos Christodoulides, setting aside any hard feelings.”
Nikos Tornaritis
Regarding his new position as the president’s representative on the Cyprus issue, Nikos Tornaritis stated that even if Dimitris Christofias had asked him to take on the role, he would have accepted.
A Candidate, Unless…
Andreas Mavroyiannis is preparing to enter the race, announcing his candidacy by January at the latest. His decision does not depend on whether AKEL supports him or not.
“We won’t wait for AKEL to decide before making our own decisions. Right now, there’s a lot of momentum surrounding my candidacy, and we don’t want to let it go to waste,”
said Andreas Mavroyiannis.
However, if he ultimately isn’t the left’s chosen candidate, he may have second thoughts.
“If there’s no momentum, and AKEL’s choices are different, and other political forces don’t support us, and Mavrogiannis’s candidacy, for example, garners 5% in the summer, it’s not the end of the world if we walk away.”

Ezekia Papaioannou’s team is focusing on outreach to other political forces. Among them is DIKO. Zacharias Koulias reiterated that his party must run independently in the elections and, if it does not advance to the second round, then seek alliances.
