The Larnaca Permanent Criminal Court rejected the new motion challenging the detention of the 54-year-old defendant in a serious case involving the alleged planning of terrorist attacks, ruling that no new evidence had come to light. On October 26, the separate trial of the 33-year-old will begin, and he is expected to testify as a witness for the prosecution.

The defendant raised the objection at the previous hearing, asking the Criminal Court to release him on conditional bail.

The court, which had reserved its decision for today, rejected the motion and ordered that the 54-year-old remain in custody, noting, among other things, that no new evidence has come to light.

It should be noted that during the proceedings for his initial referral to trial, the defendant had been released on bail of one million euros; however, that decision was overturned by the Court of Appeals.

In connection with the case, the 33-year-old defendant, who is alleged to have confessed, is expected to testify as a witness for the prosecution.

For this reason, it was decided that a separate trial would be held for him, which is set to begin before the Larnaca Permanent Criminal Court on October 26.

The 54-year-old and the other three defendants, aged 32, 38, and 41, will enter their pleas—whether they admit guilt or not—to the serious charges they face on November 4.
